Is a franchise still viable in 2018? Choose The Bed Shop

Jade Cole, COO The Bed Shop
Starting a new business can be daunting, especially with ongoing political changes taking place (locally and globally), flailing consumer expenditure and the unpredictability of consumer trends. But if you want to start a business in 2018, the franchise model is still your best bet – you just have to choose the right one.

During tough economic times consumers are less likely to spend money on unknown brands and instead seek out names that they know they can trust and rely on. The Bed Shop has been manufacturing beds for more than 20 years and our brand name is synonymous with manufacturing high quality beds that are at the same time value for money and beds that consumers know they can depend on to take care of their whole family. As further reassurance in our brand we belong to The Franchising Association in South Africa which is an accredited trade association within the franchise industry. Their aim is to develop and safeguard the business environment for ethical franchising in South Africa.

To ensure the success of our franchises, our operational planning department assists with researching new store locations, designing the store formats, and preparing budget and financial projections for each site. Once an outlet is open for business, the franchisees can call on their dedicated area representative for operational support should the need arise. The Bed Shop knows that many franchisees starting out don’t necessarily have any business know-how or background. Our franchises’ success is ultimately our success and so we work hard to ensure that even during difficult economic times they receive our support.

Certain stock allowances for franchise owners are made, dependant on risk, maximum stock level allowance and payment history. This allows the franchisee to trade through difficult times. We also partner with our franchisees on store-specific marketing campaigns, where we may give stock at reduced prices or sponsor accessories to give away.

Additionally, The Bed Shop also invests in engaging in a variety of marketing activities, including digital marketing, national promotions and individual store campaigns. National promotions run over two month-ends typically incorporating national newspaper adverts, digital campaigns, in-store promotions and promotional pamphlets. At store level, franchisees are encouraged to build awareness in their local communities through outdoor marketing activities and participating in mall shows and expos that give them the opportunity to engage with potential customers. Where necessary, franchisees can call on us for support with their local marketing initiatives. Our strong online presence also allows the brand to engage with its fans on Facebook and Twitter which has grown awareness of the brand name. These platforms are used to perform surveys, advertise national and other individual campaigns, host competitions and interact on queries that benefits us as a whole.

The Bed Shop has over 20 stores across South Africa that are already successfully established and just waiting for new owners to bring their knowledge and energy to the store. To learn more, please contact Kurt Loggenberg on 011 762 1464 or kloggenberg@thebedshopsa.co.za for more information.
