MSC Business College now in Bloemfontein

How the new Bloemfontein franchise started

The new Bloemfontein owners first met with MSC Business College at the FASA expo in May 2013. They identified many benefits to owning an MSC College. Some of the key benefits were the high entry levels into the college market as well as the impact that a college could have by delivering quality education - an opportunity provided for by MSC Business College. They developed a relationship with the MSC Business College staff and realised that MSC prides itself on quality, professionalism and going the extra mile for their franchisees. After extensive market research, they drafted their business plan intending to open an MSC Business College in Bloemfontein. Financing was attained through a working relationship with SA Franchise Warehouse and Business Partners. The speedy shopfitting and continuous organizational support from head office enabled the two young businessmen to set-up office and start recruiting in less than a month.

Background to the new franchisees

Franchise owners Jan Willem Swanepoel and Danie Grobler’s paths merged during their MBA studies at the University of the Free State (UFS). Jan Willem holds a masters degree in Agriculture from UFS and managed a small stock embryo centre for three years before venturing into the printing business as an operational manager. Danie obtained his Honours in B.Com Marketing and Business Management also from UFS, after which he worked in Namibia for MTN and Dimension Data in sales and marketing. He relocated back to Bloemfontein in 2011 to further his career in the UFS Marketing Department. Danie and JW work from a mutual base grounded on integrity, trust and faith. Their balanced partnership forms a great synergy. While JW is the more analytical and conservative of the two, the extroverted Danie is the opportunity seeker in the business.

MSC Business College background

MSC Business College was founded in 1991 by charismatic owner Cobus Potgieter. Over the past 23 years the franchise established a national footprint of 20 campuses and their disciplined quality assurance team ensures that MSC Business College’s courses and programmes are aligned with industry standards. MSC prides itself on its warm, friendly staff and facilitators and their high level of quality product delivery. With over 80 accredited courses within seven career fields, MSC Business College offers diplomas, certificates, short courses and corporate training. Pricing is very competitive and because MSC guarantees no hidden costs, textbooks and study material costs are included in the course price.

Cobus strongly believes that education providers need to bridge the gap between education and the working world, "Education that does not impart knowledge leading to the ability to practically apply the skills in the workplace is of no use to the person, the company he/she works for, or the country for that matter." In line with Potgieter’s beliefs and philosophy, a major differentiating factor for MSC Business College is the practical training principles which ensure that students are ready for the real workplace environment. Many campuses offer "MySimE Training", a simulated workplace training environment designed to develop workplace skills so that employers don’t have to. This value-add service is offered free of charge. Most companies would agree with Potgieter’s view on the transition from college to workplace, "Business owners" he says "no longer have the luxury of spending time training new staff – they want to employ job-ready people who can hit the ground running and have an immediate positive impact on their company."

The pleasure of opening the Bloemfontein campus in a province previously untapped by MSC was preceded by other good news. In December 2013 MSC Business College was named as the number one private FET college in South Africa by the South African Board for People Practices, who quality assure qualifications in the Human Resources field.

Opportunities

The MSC Business College franchise is ideally suited to hands-on entrepreneurial spirited individuals who are willing to work in the business on a full time basis. A passion for education and social upliftment is considered essential. Start-up assistance from head office includes setting up a fully-fledged college from start to finish. Opportunities are available throughout the country, particularly in Gauteng’s Randburg and West Rand areas, as well as in the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. As Nelson Mandela famously said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". MSC Business College and its franchisees look to do exactly that every day and are looking for like-minded individuals to join them in building brighter futures.
