NEW ZEALAND NATURAL ICE CREAM LAUNCHES IN SA

South Africa may have a fierce rivalry with their New Zealand counterparts on the rugby field, but when it comes to ice cream, it seems the two nations make wonderful things happen.
New Zealand Natural Ice Cream has officially launched their very first parlour in Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, Food court, Upper level 38, Entrance six.  This opening brings to South Africa a range of New Zealand made premium ice creams, sorbets & frozen yoghurt, as well as a range of smoothies, sundaes, delicious pancakes, gourmet waffles and fresh fruit juices.

However, the story actually begins a long time ago and is closer to home than you might think.  It took a South African twist of fate for the brand to really get off the ground.
The Company began as a small ice creamery in Christchurch, in New Zealand’s South Island, in 1984. New Zealand has perfect conditions and dairy pastures for making the finest ice cream.  The brand quickly became famed for ice cream with no artificial colours or flavours.

But it wasn’t until the founder met Rael Polivnick, a South African entrepreneur, on an international flight that the brand was transformed into a global favourite.  Polivnick put the first New Zealand Natural ice cream parlour on the map at Bondi, a popular beach in Sydney, Australia.  From there, the South African developed the franchising model that has helped the business grow into a multinational success story and has continued to this day, encompassing now a network of 700 branded New Zealand Natural ice cream parlours in 25 countries.

“Our vision is to be recognized internationally as a world class producer of choice, and for New Zealand Natural to become a global, iconic brand,” says export manager Fraser Brown.
Today, the company is owned by NZ entrepreneur Diane Foreman and family.  Diane was the Winner of the 2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.  Foreman, who firmly believes that you should never compromise on quality, is very passionate about New Zealand Natural, “It is really exciting to be expanding into South Africa which has such a close affinity with New Zealand.  Hopefully, it won’t be too long before you can wander along the stunning beaches of Durban and Cape Town with one of our hokey pokey ice creams in your hand.”

Says Master Franchisee: Koogan Naidoo, “We are exceptionally delighted to have broken new ground in SA and opening our first New Zealand Natural ice cream Parlour in Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, South Africa.  This is the start of a long term vision as we hope to further stimulate trade and investment opportunities between New Zealand and SA.”
The New Zealand Natural staff was privileged to be trained by Terry Morris, global trainer and former title-holder of The Guinness World Record for the most ice cream scoops on a single cone.
