Veronica Motloutsi
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Smart Digital Solutions, Veronica Motloutsi, was conferred not one, but two prestigious awards in recognition of the milestones she has achieved in the information and communications technology sector (ICT).

Motloutsi was selected as the overall winner of the Top 50 Inspiring Women in 2018 and the Standard Bank Top Entrepreneur of the Year. Motloutsi founded Smart Digital a year ago to assist organisations and homes to transform into the digital age.

Smart Digital has forged a partnership with Software AG to provide smart solutions to homes and businesses by leveraging the power of data analytics, big data, software and connectivity. The smart solutions that Smart Digital Solutions offer include fiber to the home (FTTH) connectivity and remote security surveillance for homes, and connectivity, Cloud and Office 365 for the enterprise customer.

The Johannesburg-based company has seven full time employees, and consultants on standby that get roped in on a project by project basis.

“I am excited and humbled to be named the overall winner of the Top 50 Inspiring Women 2018 and the Standard Bank Top Entrepreneur of the Year. The competition was very fierce as I was up against remarkable women who have blazed a trail in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) field.

The quality of the submissions is very encouraging as it demonstrates the great strides that women are making in changing the gender demographics of this industry, which continues to be male dominated. I wish to thank Software AG for the support they have given us since we started – winning these prestigious accolades demonstrates that their confidence in us was not misplaced,” says Motloutsi. She says that clinching the much-sought after awards will go a long way towards profiling her company, beefing up its credibility and instilling confidence to both employees and existing and prospective clients.

Inspiring Fifty is a Dutch-born non-profit organisation and showcases inspiring female role models in the STEM industry.

This is the second year that the awards have been running in South Africa. Candidates that are eligible to enter the competition are women who are either founders of a technology company, or hold a C-level position in a technology company, or influencers, academics or politicians in the technology or innovation space.

The Standard Bank Top Entrepreneur of the Year is open to all South African-based businesses and prizes are awarded for the following categories: Overall Entrepreneur of the Year, Emerging Business Entrepreneur of the Year, Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year, Medium Business Entrepreneur of the Year, Job Creator of the Year and Innovator of the Year. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the competition.
