#SAFranchiseFriday featuring The Fish & Chip Co
BACKGROUND
The Fish & Chip Co was established to address the need for a solid business opportunity that provides customers with a winning value proposition. At The Fish & Chip Co they believe that franchisees and their employees are the most important people in the organisation. This philosophy and its execution give The Fish & Chip Co a competitive advantage in the market.
The Fish & Chip Co is a member of the Taste Holdings Group and forms part of the Taste Food Division along with Zebro’s, Maxi’s, Domino’s Pizza and Starbucks. The Taste Holdings Group is a South African-based management group with a portfolio of mostly franchised, category specialist and formula-driven, quick-service restaurants and retail brands. Since acquiring The Fish & Chip Co franchise business in 2012, Taste Holdings Limited has grown and cemented its position as leader in the fish and chip segment of the market.
THE CONCEPT
The Fish & Chip Co serves the freshest, tastiest fish and a lot of chips to consumers across South Africa and is one of the fastest growing and most popular fast food businesses in the country. Their Top 10 nomination in the Sunday Times Top Brands 2015 Fast-Food Restaurant awards category is a testament to the potential and popularity of the brand. The Fish & Chip Co offers one of the lowest set-up costs in its market as well as low fixed royalties and a quick return on investment.
Over the years The Fish & Chip Co has built a reputation for serving generous portions of fish served with fresh-cut chips at affordable prices. Customers are spoilt for choice with mouthwatering menu options that include traditional-style fish and chips and delicious Russian-style sausages.
FRANCHISOR SUPPORT
The Fish & Chip Co’s business philosophy is to provide franchisees with guidance to build and operate a successful enterprise. The franchisor assists franchisees with preparing finance applications, identifying suitable sites, and initial and ongoing training and support. Franchisees are supported by an experienced team, including a dedicated franchise manager who facilitates communication and operational requirements between the franchisee and franchisor.
All franchisees are required to complete a 5-day training programme that covers day-to-day operations, staffing, stock control, marketing, and management skills.
FRANCHISEE PROFILE
A successful business is driven by a hands-on individual who understands the importance of superior service delivery, is passionate about people and willing to commit to a long-term plan that will yield results.
